Canadian Caregiving Organizations
Many caregivers, their families, and friends are not aware that there are three other provincial caregiving organizations in Canada. They all provide valuable programs and services to help support unpaid caregivers. You can find more information about each one below. Caregivers Nova Scotia values the work they do and the opportunity to partner with them.
Federal organizations
Canadian Centre of Caregiving Excellence - established by the Azrieli Foundation in May 2022. A federal organization, supporting caregivers through research and advocacy.
Young Caregivers Association - the first organization in Canada dedicated to supporting young caregivers and their families. Established in 2003, they have developed the year-round Powerhouse program, building resilience and confidence of young caregivers.
Provincial organizations
Caregivers Alberta - founded in 2001, Caregivers Alberta is an organization of caregivers, for caregivers, and Alberta’s only dedicated caregiver organization. They improve the lives of caregivers by providing group and one-on-one supports that help caregivers, increasing communities’ capacity to support caregivers, and advocating for policy changes that will make a difference in caregivers’ lives.
Family Caregivers of British Columbia - established in 1989 as the Family Caregivers Network Society, it was the first organization of its kind in Canada. Today, its mission is to improve the quality of life for family caregivers through support, information, and education. They provide leadership to strengthen the voice of family caregivers and the significance of their role.
L'Appui pour les proches aidants - the caregiving organization from Quebec.
The Ontario Caregiver Organization - established on April 3, 2018. It is be a one-stop resource for friends and family caring for loved ones that will provide or coordinate a full range of supports for Ontario caregivers, including: navigation of available services, facilitating access to information, and promoting collaboration between existing organizations.
Caregivers New Brunswick - the newest provincial caregiving organization, established in 2025.
