Our History
Our story began in 1998, when Mary Elizabeth McLellan, the sole caregiver for her mother, realized how little support there is for people in her position. She decided to advocate for better support systems for caregivers.
She secured funding and organized focus groups with other family caregivers. Around the tables, women shared their experiences, giving the provincial government a clear picture of the challenges caregivers face. Those conversations led to a three-year grant, big enough to establish a non-profit dedicated to supporting caregivers.
Decades later, we’ve grown into a province-wide non-profit, helping caregivers navigate the healthcare system, find community and amplify their voices to change public policy.
In 2021, our coordinator Jennine Wilson interviewed Mary Elizabeth McLellan. Read the full profile here.
