How We Help
There are a few ways we support our caregivers.
1 on 1 support. When you’re referred to Caregivers NS, we connect you with your regional coordinator. We can help you navigate the medical system, offer advice, help you find resources and advocate on your behalf – whatever you need to make your caregiving journey a little easier. While we are not able to offer legal, financial or medical advice, we can connect you to the organizations that can. You can contact your coordinator by phone or email, your message is always fully confidential. Learn more here.
Handbook. A significant part of caregiving is navigating local resources, programs and systems, finding the right information. That can be overwhelming. We’ve created a handbook to make this part of your journey a little easier. You can find legal and financial information, tips on nutrition and safe medication administration, taking care of yourself as a caregiver, health crisis planning and so much more, all in one book.
Support groups. You’re not alone in your journey. Every month, we host over 20+ peer support groups with other unpaid family and friend caregivers just like you. Sessions are facilitated by our coordinators and create a confidential and non-judgmental space where you can share your experience, ask for advice or support. Whether you feel like talking or you're more comfortable just listening, you’re always welcome. The sessions are free and open to all caregivers, regardless of age or the health condition of your care recipient. Learn more here.
Education. From time to time, we host several in-person educational workshops, tailored to special interests of caregivers. Topics include: advance care planning, caregiver stress management, navigating expressive behaviours, safe medication and brushing up on mouth care. On our website, you can find a video series on nutrition. Learn more here.
We are here to help in every way we can. Whether you require some information, would like to talk to someone on the phone, or attend one of our peer support groups, please contact us and we'll be there for you.
